India Unravelled - Textiles on Tour

Textiles on Tour - Colour and Culture in India

Natalie Miller is a formidable force in the world of weaving. She has been dubbed the ‘Queen of Macramé’ for her ambitious textile masterpieces, including the two biggest macramé chandeliers in the world, on Hong Kong Island. When it comes to broadening the reach of weaving and textiles, it’s safe to say that Natalie is doing it in style!

She hand-dyes all of her fabrics and, driven by reviving the beauty of handmaking, she is fascinated to learn more about how it is done in different cultures. She will travel to India this year to explore the age-old methods and techniques of India’s highly skilled artisans, and you are invited to join her! You will get to explore little known tribal cultures, carpet weaving on heritage hand looms in Jodphur, the intricacy of block printing in Jaipur and an inspiring SOS Elephant Conservation centre where villagers are knitting jumpers for elephants who have been subjected to extreme neglect and cruelty.

To leave the tourist trail behind and explore India’s textile micro-industries is to really understand the beating heart of the country’s tribal culture, history and soul. This is India Unravelled.
