Arriving in Casablanca we travel directly to Rabat, ‘The White City’, before visiting the brilliantly-blue city of Chefchaouen. The UNESCO World Heritage listed city of Fes will transport us back to medieval times as we stroll through the labyrinthine alleyways of the 1200 year old Medina and explore this eclectic city and its surrounds. Flying south to Marrakech we will explore the gardens of Yves Saint Laurent, shop til we drop in the world’s most famous souk and be inspired by astoundingly intricate Islamic architecture. An enchanting evening in a luxurious tented camp in the Agafay Stony Desert precedes our final few days in Essaouira with it’s artisanal community and laid back atmosphere, the perfect canvas to breathe in and reflect on the experiences shared. Along the way we will enjoy a combination of the very best luxury riads and boutique hotels, we will get lost in ancient alleyways, immerse ourselves in centuries‐old souks and artisan markets and discover the language, arts and cuisine of the Moroccan people.
Join expert colourist and designer Nadine Donazzan as she takes you on a transforming, soul-enriching and vibrant journey to one of the most colourful and textural destinations on the planet. This rare opportunity to discover in Al Maghrib, the ancient Arabic name for Morocco, meaning "far west where the sun sets" will open your eyes to one of the great wonders of the world: the magic of colour.
Please also note that Nadine will be hosting a number of OPTIONAL workshops focusing on Colour in Architecture, Build, Design and Photography. Completion of all four, planned workshops on this tour will result in you accumulating 3 Formal and 6 Informal CPD points.
Welcome to Morocco! On arrival in Casablanca we will drive north to Rabat where we will settle into an exquisite, traditional riad that encapsulates Moroccan design with the use of tadelakt tiling, before enjoying a welcome sunset cocktail and dinner.
After a guided morning tour of Rabat we will drive to the ancient Roman ruins at Volubilis and will explore Meknes before continuing to the famed Blue
City of Chefchaouen. During our stay we will meander the dreamy, cobblestone streets painted in mesmerising shades of blue, capturing memories
of this incredible village not only with our cameras but also in an expressive art class, painting with local pigments.
Fes is the home to the oldest and largest authentic Medina, or old town, in North Africa. It is considered the religious, cultural, and handicraft
centre of Morocco. We will not only explore the architectural, historical and artisanal highlights - including the world famous pottery co-operatives,
dying pits and tannery - we will also have the opportunity to take a walking street food tour, tasting freshly baked bread, marinated olives and
traditional Moroccan sweet treats!
A short flight will deliver us to the ochre‐coloured city of Marrakech where we will immerse ourselves in the colour and chaos of the
honeycombed alleys that make up possibly the world's most famous souk! We will be enchanted by masterpieces of Hispano‐Mauresque and Islamic
architecture, smell, sample and shop for everything from spice, sandalwood and black soap to clothing, baskets, leather goods, furniture, lanterns,
fabrics, pottery and almost anything else you could wish for. The exquisite and colourful oasis of Yves Saint Laurent's Marjorelle Gardens will
captivate, whilst the opportunity to discover the unique scents of Morocco under the tutelage of a renowned perfumer cannot be beaten.
A night beneath a blanket of stars is a must in Morocco and we will take the opportunity to stop in the Agafay Stoney Desert to ride camels at sunset
and enjoy the camaraderie of sitting around a roaring campfire before retiring to our oppulent, berber style tents on the way to the Atlantic coast.
Enroute to the Atlantic coast we will stop to taste Moroccan wine, participate in the production of Argan Oil and view tree climbing goats before arriving
in the seaside town of Essaouira - a vibrant home to all manner of artists, musicians and craftspeople who will delight us with their skill.
In a former sea merchant's home we will be initiated into the delights of one of the world's best cuisines learning to combine spices to create
a sensational Moroccan tagine that you will easily be able to reproduce for your friends and family back home. Dining on your culinary creation,
accompanied by a glass of wine, we will celebrate all the highlights of our journey this evening before departing Morocco tomorrow.
On our final morning we'll rise early to travel along the coastline from Essaouira to Casablanca - the departure point for most outbound flights from Morocco. Our itinerary ends at the airport where you have the opportunity to extend your stay in Morocco, travel onward to Europe or begin your journey home.
Shukran and thank you for joining us on this inspiring journey.
