La Paz, Uyuni, Sucre & Potosi

Built in a canyon and surrounded by the high mountains of the altiplano sits Bolivia’s capital, La Paz. This fascinating city, the highest in the world, is filled with impressive colonial buildings, steep, cobbled streets and captivating sites. Here the presence of indigenous communities is strong and a visit to the bewitching markets is a must.  Travel to Potosi, built on the wealth of the silver mines, and visit the Mint House, colonial churches and silver mine where you can see the remains of the silver production in the famous Silver Mountain.  Sucre, Bolivia’s most beautiful city and the symbolic heart of the nation, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991. Its historic charm, wealth of colonial architecture, indigenous roots and pleasant atmosphere make it the perfect place to ease into the Bolivian way of life. Explore the narrow streets, whitewashed buildings sheltering pretty patios and visit the House of Liberty and Bolivar Park before crossing the altiplano to explore Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt lake Isla Pescado, Red Lagoon and other natural wonders that form this surreal landscape.
