Amboseli, Tsavo & Chyulu Hills
In southern Kenya, close to the border with Tanzania, the three reserves of Amboseli, Tsavo (East & West) and Chyulu Hills are often overlooked by those less ‘in the know’.
Amboseli is a photographers dream, with snow-capped Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world, forming the backdrop to the wide open spaces that play host to some of the largest elephant populations in East Africa. Tsavo East & West were once one enormous park but were separated long ago by the construction of the Mombasa Highway. Each has its own distinct ecosystem with Tsavo East home to open, undulating plains whilst Tsavo West offers a hilly landscape, dotted with volcanic outcrops, and is where you can track the Big Five. And between these two huge areas lie the stunning Chyulu Hills where open plains and rolling hills are dotted with rocky outcrops and you are unlikely to see another soul whilst on a game drive.
