Skeleton Coast Flying Safaris
An exhilarating adventure flying over the top of this scenically stunning country
The Skeleton Coast is one of the planet’s most inhospitable yet beautiful places. The concession covers 300,000ha of wild and uninhabited wilderness where a lunar landscape of gravel plains covered with lichens and rare welwitschia plants, interspersed with sand dunes, gives way to the harsh Atlantic coastline.
Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp is scenically located at the confluence of two tributaries of the Hoanib River in the northern part of the private Palmwag Concession. Its location thus straddles the Palmwag area & the iconic Skeleton Coast National Park. The camp is only accessible by light aircraft and consists of seven twin-bedded tents & one family unit, each comprising stylish en-suite bedrooms with shaded outdoors decks. Flanked to the east and west by rugged hills, the camp looks out over stunning, starkly beautiful scenery and offers you all the luxuries and amenities for an unforgettable stay.
The area is explored by vehicle, on foot and by air.You can marvel at the ancient welwitschia plant, savour landscapes that unfold untouched for hundreds of kilometres and discover the wealth of desert-adapted life on game drives. Freshwater springs support healthy populations of giraffe, gemsbok, Hartmann's mountain zebra, springbok, kudu, black-backed jackal and brown hyaena. Even elephant thrive and lion, leopard and cheetah also occur.
On a stay of three nights (or more) flights over the Skeleton Coast are offered, showcasing the rugged coastline where the famous Cape fur seals live in their thousands and fascinating shipwrecks remain.
