There is no finer way to see Africa’s wildest and least-visited pockets than on board a Rovos Rail train locomotive, known as ‘the most luxurious train in the world’. This 15-day expedition bisects the entire continent of Africa in half, travelling from Tanzania to Angola in first class comfort.

The Dar-Lobito route is a brand new journey and will be the first time in history that a passenger train travels the famous east-to-west copper trail on this route and it will traverse Tanzania, Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Angola. This voyage sets off from the Tanzanian capital, Dar es Salaam, and includes a game visit in the Selous Reserve, a fly-in two-night safari in the South Luangwa National Park (Zambia) and a city tour of Lubumbashi (DRC). Thereafter it joins the Benguela line for short walking tour detailing Angola’s recent history before the journey ends in Lobito. The route will also be available in reverse.

In true Rovos style, the rebuilt wood-panelled coaches offer Victorian styled en-suite accommodation of unmatched luxury and space and the service on board is exemplary. Guests dress for dinner and meals are served with a sense of occasion in beautifully restored pre-1940 carriages. Observation carriages to the rear enjoy enlarged windows and open air balconies while lounge cars offer deep sofas and wingback chairs and host interesting lectures.

Stepping aboard a Rovos train to join this epic journey you will be swept back in time to discover the Africa of a bygone era in luxurious five-star style.
