Mobile Camping Safari with

Roger Dugmore

Botswana

Botswana authentic camping

A tented safari is the classic, old fashioned way of traveling through the African wilderness.  Think back to the trips taken over a hundred years ago in eastern Africa, Roger Dugmore provides similar character and individual attention for adventurous travellers in the 21st century.

While on your safari you can be guaranteed a degree of luxury: the camps have a full staff complement including a chef, waiters, tent keepers and drivers.  Meals are prepared according to the highest standards and your dietary requirements. You will always have a selection of soft drinks, fine wines, spirits, and mineral water at hand, and the vehicle fridges guarantee cold drinks on the game drives.

Most importantly, a tented safari means you will enjoy great mobility through these untamed areas. When the camp is moved, you wake to enjoy a wonderful breakfast while around you, the camp is taken down.  You then enjoy a leisurely game drive with picnic lunch, then arrive at your new destination, with the camp miraculously resurrected, your shower water hot, a campfire on the go and your supper being prepared.

Being on a tented safari also means camp sites are chosen according to seasonal movements of game and local conditions.  Each camp caters to a maximum of twelve guests to keep safaris private and personal.  Accommodation consists of spacious walk in tents complete with linen and all amenities needed for a comfortable stay in the bush.  Each tent has its own traditional bucket shower and long-drop loo.

DAYS 1-3 | MOREMI GAME RESERVE - CAMP 1

Arrive at Maun Airport where you will be met by your private guide and driven to the Moremi Game Reserve. This is a 4-hour drive with the chance of catching great animal sightings along the way. Heading towards camp your travelling party will stop for a packed lunch and cold drinks. On arrival at the first mobile bush camp, the camp staff will welcome everyone, and you will be briefed and then shown around to familiarise yourself with your new home. You will spend 3 nights in this camp.

Each morning rise before the sun and enjoy a light breakfast by the fire before departing on a morning drive to explore the area renowned for its diversity of fauna and flora. The diversity includes flowing rivers, marginal flood plains and magnificent forests that are home to a diverse array of inhabitants. Return to camp for lunch, an afternoon siesta, and a moment to relax in camp before heading out again in the afternoon. In the evening you can recount the day’s sightings, enjoying the finest bush cuisine before heading to bed, falling asleep under a canvas of glittering galaxies, whilst listening to the African night sounds.

DAYS 4-7 | MOREMI GAME RESERVE - CAMP 2

Wake early in the morning to enjoy a wonderful breakfast whilst around you the camp is being taken down. Your group will then take a leisurely game drive with a picnic lunch in a shady spot, and arrive at the new camp site, with the camp miraculously resurrected once more, the shower water hot, a campfire on the go and supper being prepared. Enjoy 4 nights in this new camp.

Each day will be tailored with your guide to suit your interests and will offer much variety in the experience. Marvel at the natural beauty of the contrast between Mopane woodlands and aquatic vegetation, brimming with incredible birds and wildlife. One day you will take to the water channels of the Okavango Delta by motorboat, allowing for fantastic birding photography, Red Lechwe sightings and the possibility of viewing the elusive and rare Sitatunga. Enjoy a picnic lunch on one of the wilderness islands, watch elephants bathe, dip your toes into the crystal-clear waters and perhaps even catch 40 winks under a shady tree. After a hot shower each evening, return to the campfire and enjoy a three-course dinner served with fine South African wines, before tucking in for the night.

DAY 8 | MAUN | END OF SAFARI

After breakfast, say your goodbyes to the camp staff and depart by road back to Maun for your onward arrangements, hopefully catching a few more exciting sightings along the way.
