SAFARI SUGGESTIONS

Wildlife in India is extremely diversified and abundant within very select areas. Naturally, many visitors consider tiger to be what India is all about. Certainly a good sighting of tigers makes this impression very understandable. To see this wildlife you have to visit one, or more, of the many National Parks in the various Indian States.
Amazing antelope that you might see are Nilgai and Gaur. The bird life is quite exceptional, and with a good naturalist, many people who have never appreciated bird life will find it interesting.
Most National Parks incorporate a Tiger Reserve within the National Park. This means there is a species specific management system for the tigers. The National Parks usually have Buffer Zones that either surround the park or adjoin it at certain points. Generally the Buffer Zones are previously farmed land that is in transition to National Park, but can be harvested by locals under certain conditions. In some cases the transition is moving in the opposite direction to becoming a National Park due to local politics and historical use. The National Parks are under constant threat of encroachment and poaching.

For those who have visited the Masai Mara, the comparative area is: 1,510sq km [39kms x 39kms]
Kanha and Bandhavgarh are exceptional. They have the most interesting and beautiful vegetation, high hills, running water, undulating country and stunning open plains for seeing the deer [and other wildlife] and for the appreciation of open space that highlight the majesty of the adjoining Sal forests [evergreen trees].
Highly recommended is Sher Bagh a perfect jungle camp in the Ranthambore National Park or you may like to stay at the exceptional Samode Safari Lodge in the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve.
