When To Go
We do recommend starting to plan at least 12 months in advance. It is also recommended that you secure your accommodation at least 9 - 12 months in advance to avoid disappointment.
The properties we recommend have a limited number of beds and fill up very quickly.
Seasons & Climate
For prime game viewing, the general rule of thumb is that the drier it is the better the concentrations of game around water. During the 'green season' the animals are still about, they are just more dispersed and spread out due to the increased amounts of food & water available.
There are certainly big advantages to travelling in both seasons. As the name indicates, the 'green season' is when the vegetation is lush and green. The animals are celebrating the birth of their new born as well as the growth of food - it is the start of the cycle of life. It is also a prime time for migratory birds.
East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda) is equatorial so the climate is fairly constant. They do have distinctive wet seasons being November, April & May. Travelling outside of these times is our recommendation. Due to the altitude, it can be cool in certain places so whilst it is equatorial, a jumper/jacket is often recommended. Peak Season - July to September & December to February
Southern Africa (South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe) is a year round destination. Some areas do not operate in the rainy season (Nov - Apr) only because the rain makes camps and roads inaccessible in locations such as the Luangwa and the Lower Zambezi in Zambia. Botswana and Namibia are good year round destinations. Peak - July to September, Christmas & Easter.
North Africa (Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, Libya & West Africa) are more popular in their winter months - September to April/May.
India - the best time to travel to India is from September to May. The peak season is October to March when it is cooler. Either side of this, India has some super 'deals' but it means travelling when it is slight hotter.
