Kenya has some of the largest and best-stocked game reserves in Africa, and is home to a diverse and colourful collection of tribal people. The scenic beauty is astonishingly diverse - from palm-fringed, white sandy beaches, to the alpine regions of Mt Kenya, the lakes and volcanoes of the Rift Valley and the more arid northern plains dotted with game.

Most travellers come to Kenya for the wildlife, and we recommend you include the Masai Mara & Samburu Reserves as well as the Lakes of the Rift Valley on your safari. This provides diversity in landscapes and animal species and allows for encounters with the Masai and Samburu tribes. For adventure, try climbing Mt Kenya. Or if it's cultural immersion you're seeking, try a walking safari with African Latitude.

Highlights:

  • Samburu, Meru
  • The Rift Valley Lakes & Escarpments
  • Masai Mara

Getting there: Fly from Europe, Johannesburg or Harare to Nairobi
Combine with: Tanzania, Zimbabwe, South Africa
Best time: January - March, June - October
