Uncharted Africa Safari Co. is one of the last truly traditional safari companies in operation. Its unique historical foundations and the colourful and dedicated people who continue the family business have not only kept faith with tradition but also added something very special of their own...real adventure, unreal style.

The unsurpassed wildlife diversity that Botswana has to offer is best experienced on the move and a Mobile Expedition provides a more adventurous and authentic alternative to the usual permanent camps. With the flexibility to move the camp into the remotest areas of the Okavango Delta, Central Kalahari and Chobe, the safari can accommodate personal tastes and preferences offering a wider variety of experiences and areas than a permanent camp.

Traditional and spacious tents appointed with style blend bygone comfort with rugged panache. Polished copper water jugs, paraffin lamps, pure white cotton sheets and feather bedding ensure an authentic safari.

This 8 night Mobile Expedition visits the Moremi Reserve and Okavango Delta, staying in two different sites as well as a night ‘fly camping’ on an isolated island in the heart of the Delta. The safari ends with a few days at Uncharted Africa’s base, so all can enjoy the surreal landscape and desert ecosystem that is the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans.

On safari each meal is a special experience; imagine lunch sheltering under the shady bough of an acacia or dinner beneath the night sky. Food is an essential part of any successful expedition; all the meals are beautifully prepared and presented by a skilled kitchen team. Tables decked with crisp white damask and silver are set against the rugged austerity of the African bush. Uncharted Africa Safari Co. is renowned for its uncomplicated meals - fresh tastes with original interpretations of classic dishes.Teas are indulgent affairs always with delicious cakes and fresh iced teas. All the bread is baked daily on the coals in trunk ovens and full cooked English breakfasts offered before or after your early morning activities. A private expedition allows you to immerse yourself completely in the incredible spectacles that the Moremi, Okavango and Makgadikgadi have to offer.

The areas visited are remote, wild and starkly beautiful and having time and space to explore them the key. If you choose to watch lions hunting or spend the days at a busy waterhole the decision is yours. From the safety of the expedition’s boat meander along the maze of channels stopping to admire the fantastic bird life or observe elephants  as they wash and feed on the roots of aquatic plants. You can picnic and take a siesta in the arms of a giant baobab tree or spend the afternoon seeking out hyaena dens on foot. As the day cools down, you can head out and enjoy the nocturnal world – aardvarks at work, cats on the prowl or jackal searching out a meal.

For the expeditions,Uncharted Africa Co. deploy the most experienced and well-qualified guides. Carefully trained by Ralph Bousfield, each qualified Biologist-Guide must have a minimum of at least two years guiding experience in the Kalahari allowing guests a holistic understanding of this magical and pristine wilderness environment.
