A mobile camping safari is reminiscent of the expeditions undertaken by the early explorers - a close group lead through the bush by a professional guide, accompanied by a small crew of camp staff and all the necessary equipment for a self-contained journey through the wilderness.

The flexibility of a mobile safari allows you access to remote wilderness areas within Botswana's national parks and reserves, far beyond the reaches of a morning game drive out of a lodge. A typical mobile safari itinerary may vary between 5 and 10 nights in length, visiting various different areas within the national parks and reserves, spending 2 to 3 nights in any one location. This type of travel allows you to fully appreciate the subtle changes in the environment as you move from one area to the next by land, learn about the forces which shaped the landscape around you, and come face to face with its wild inhabitants. The thrill is not only in the destination, but in the journey itself.

Travelling with Okavango Expeditions you will traverse the most wildlife-populated regions of Botswana accompanied by a licensed, professional guide. Your guide’s knowledge and passion will astound you and the intricate details of the ecosystem they uncover will leave as much of an impression as the big game.

Throughout you will be accommodated in spacious (3m x 3m), walk-in wilderness safari tents with large breezy windows and private ensuite ‘bush bathrooms’. The central dining and seating area of your camp is set out in the open wilderness, taking full advantage of the natural surroundings, immersing you in the sights, sounds and smells of the bush. Meanwhile fresh bread is baked daily in a charcoal oven and the delicious and healthy meals are produced with finesse from a simple bush kitchen.

Every couple of days the whole operation is dismantled and moved to your new location by the dedicated camp crew, who run the whole show with military precision and unflappable style.

There is something magical about the atmosphere created by the soft, warm glow of a paraffin lantern, showering under the starry night sky, and the flicker and warmth of a campfire. Being totally immersed in the wilderness, 24hrs a day, allows you to fully appreciate the true essence of Africa. Your senses are awakened by the calls of the wild, the smell of first rain, soothing African breezes and breath-taking sunsets. A mobile camping safari offers you luxury & personal service on a traditional tented safari - the ultimate in an intimate wilderness experience. It’s the stuff that childhood adventures are made of!
