Namibia Landcape Photography Safari
An enriching photographic safari escorted by fine art photographer Len Metcalf
The intriguing ancient cultures, dramatic landscapes and iconic wildlife of Namibia make it a photographic wonderland. The intensity of colour and the pureness of the light here provide an inspiring environment in which to hone your photographic skills with journey host acclaimed landscape photographer, Len Metcalf.
This unique, one off 12-day itinerary will take in Namibia’s extraordinary diversity providing the opportunity to witness and photograph unique desert adapted animals, ancient tribal history, giant sand dunes, wild coastlines and arid desertscapes. Throughout the safari you will travel in a small group of just eight participants in a specially adapted 4WD vehicle offering each photographer their own window for unhindered shooting and immediate access to Len’s supportive teaching.
Beginning your safari in Windhoek you’ll experience the incongruity of a cosmopolitan African city dotted with cathedral spires and German architecture before heading out to Sossusvlei where you will learn the complex nature of sand dune photography and begin your portfolio of striking landscape shots. From here you will continue through pre-historic looking Welwitschia Plains to the shipwreck-littered Skeleton Coast where Len will teach seascape and coastal photography, including photographic composition and techniques for long exposures. The Skeleton coast offers a whole host of optional activities including dolphin watching, dune quad biking and dune boarding, sea kayaking and spectacular scenic flights.
Moving on to Spitzkoppe and Damaraland you will see the ancient Twyfelfontein rock engravings, surreal geological landforms and rare desert adapted wildlife including elephant, oryx and ostrich. During this time Len will discuss and demonstrate various approaches for wildlife photography including techniques for focusing and framing a beautiful shot, colour theory and practice and the visual language of black and white photography. Your journey will come to an end in Etosha National Park where you will have plenty to time to practise the techniques learnt and enjoy further individual assistance from Len as you explore the area on a number of games drives.
This unique journey teaches you how to see photographically - how to look beyond the snapshot and produce fine art photographs. Set in one of the world’s most visually stimulating environments, this is not just another photographic tour but top notch safari and carefully constructed learning experience. You will be challenged and inspired on a daily basis, producing an impressive portfolio of exquisite images as the colours and landscapes of Namibia etch their lasting impression on your lens.
