Matemwe Retreat is located on an amazing stretch of private land, just north of Matemwe's main lodge and right opposite the Mnemba Atoll.

Matemwe Retreat consists of four self-contained, private villas, each with uninterrupted views of the ocean. The villas have been designed to cater for those looking for pure escapism. They feature in-house dining and private butler service, a private bar area, bedroom and bathroom complete with an oversized bathtub looking out towards the ocean.  Your spacious veranda is equipped with a comfortable couch and large hammock creating the perfect spot to unwind and watch the fishing dhows returning from sea. The private roof terrace hosts a plunge pool complete with both sun and shade decks.

Each day the manager or chef will stop by to discuss lunch and dinner preferences: the catch of the day served in the privacy of your garden or roof terrace or a dinner at Matemwe's main lodge, where you can enjoy the company of other guests. Drinks are served in your room or on the beach and you can have massages and beauty treatments in the comfort of your roof terrace, overlooking the Indian Ocean.

Explore the East Coast or enjoy the many activities on offer at Matemwe Retreat.  Activities include sailing with the local “Ngalawa” (traditional fishing boats with wooden outriggers), snorkelling or diving on the unique and colourful Mnemba reef. For the lucky ones, whales, dolphins or sea turtles might be spotted at close range. There is a fully equipped PADI recognised dive centre nearby where kayaks can also be hired.
