Nestled in the heart of South Africa's pristine Eastern Cape province lies Kwandwe Private Game Reserve, flanking banks of the Great Fish River which meanders through this malaria-free private wilderness. It is renowned for understated luxury, exquisite scenery and the thousands of animals that call the Reserve home. These include lion, black and white rhino, buffalo, elephant and cheetah.

The meaning of Kwandwe in Xhosa is “Place of the Blue Crane”, and the Reserve is home to a population of these rare, vulnerable birds (South Africa’s National Bird). The Reserve is also sanctuary to other threatened species including the Knysna woodpecker, Cape grysbok, black wildebeest, crowned eagle and black-footed cat.

Great Fish River Lodge gives you one of the greatest gifts Africa offers, the sense of space - the vastness of this wild continent is truly all around you.Set along the lush green banks of the river after which it is named, the Lodge is designed to amplify the endless landscape. Everything here takes place on a grander scale, but it is the attention to detail and expansive, unmatched vistas that keep visitors coming back year after year. You can watch majestic kudu meander down to the river from the Lodge’s viewing decks, or observe playful Cape clawless otters swimming in the cool waters below from the comfort of your private balcony.

Activities include game drives, morning and night, walks and cultural visits to the local village and community.
