Kasbah du Toubkal
Mountain and village trekking
Just 80 kilometres from Marrakech, high above sea level at the base of the highest peak in north Africa, Jbel Toubkal, and set against the dramatic back drop of the rocky Atlas Mountains, Kasbah de Toubkal feels a world away and definitely is.
Everything throughout the kasbah, from the intricately carved doors to vibrant rugs, is handmade by local craftsmen from local materials giving it a sense of genuine warmth and authenticity. Rooms vary from an apartment suite set over two levels with large plate glass window and 10 m long balcony for taking in the mountain view, to a standard room which is simple and comfortable and offers eco-friendly, cosy accommodation decorated in the authentic Berber style. All guests are provided with a djellaba (a long, hooded robe) and a pair of berber slippers which adds to the sense of cosy well-being. The atmospherically lit restaurant serves delicious, hearty meals created with fresh local ingredients and in warmer months dinner is served on the stunning rooftop terrace showcasing amazing panoramic views and a star studded nighttime sky.
During your stay you will be endlessly entertained by the mountains and their communities. There is plenty of walking, hiking and mountain climbing to enjoy while the near-by Berber town of Ansi and the 12th century Tinmel Mosque provide plenty to occupy those interested in the area’s culture and history.
Kasbah du Tokbhal is a cosy and inviting spot from which you can really explore the majestic Atlas Mountains and delve into Morocco’s rural heritage .
