This extensive journey through Peru, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina and Brazil illustrates just how much diversity there is to enjoy throughout South America. It is intended as an example itinerary to inspire.

In Peru’s Lima you’ll wander through colonial facades and high rises, visit stately museums and cutting edge art galleries and sample the city’s phenomenal gastronomic scene, before heading deep into the Peruvian Amazon Jungle to stay at a unique eco-lodge surrounded but unique flora and fauna. Moving to Cusco and the Sacred Valley you’ll witness Machu Picchu in all its ancient splendor and hike through Andean countryside dotted with colorful villages, shopping for folk art and pottery along the way.

Moving on to Ecuador you’ll enjoy two nights in the high altitude capital city of Quito before transferring to The Galapagos – an astonishing haven for a unique collection of wildlife including giant tortoises, blue-footed boobies performing elaborate courtship dances, flightless cormorants & swimming iguanas. Here you will stay in a beautiful safari-style camp set high on a ridge with magnificent views over the Pacific Ocean.

Your next stop is Chile’s capital Santiago, a city of expansive museums, grand architecture and buzzing sidewalk eateries, and the perfect base for an excursion to the wineries of the Casablanca Valley and port town of Valparaiso. For food and wine lovers, the joy continues as you transfer to Argentina’s Mendoza province, known for its extraordinary gastronomy, chic, relaxed lifestyle and superb wines.

From here you’ll transfer to sophisticated Salta, for the MAAM, high altiplano and the Salinas Grandes salt flats, stay overnight in in Puramarca to see the rainbow rocks at the Hill of Seven Colours and learn about pre-hispanic history as you wander UNESCO world heritage sites.

No trip to South America would be complete without a visit to the mighty Iguassu Falls, where you’ll enjoy exclusive pre-public access, be dwarfed by their impressive roar and take a boat trip for an up-close encounter.

From here your month long journey comes to a close in Brazil as you end on a high note in Rio de Janeiro. Rio's favelas are a bright patchwork of densley populated slum districts that are home to some of the most vibrant parts of Rio de Janeiro, both in colour and culture. Exploring these is a great way to dive beneath the flashy veneer of Ipanema & Copacabana beach and appreciate the depth of Rio's charm – definitely a spot to immerse yourself in, rather than avoid. You’ll also have plenty of time to ascend Sugar Loaf mountain, visit ‘Christ the Redeemer’ and soak up the glamour of this stunning city.

This itinerary is intended as a framework for a spectacular journey through Latin America’s vast cultural and ecological diversity but it is just the beginning. We’ve barely scratched the surface and we haven’t even mentioned Cuba, Mexico or Colombia!
