This example itinerary, intended as a framework only, encompasses many elements of India’s spirit from colourful jostling cities and hypnotic ceremonies to iconic architecture, shifting desert sands and days spent tracking tigers through shimmering jungle. You’ll stay in historic forts, palaces, boutique hotels and elegant tented camps, enjoying all the glamour of India’s Raj era, the country’s diverse heritage and the style and sophistication of India today.

Beginning in the pulsing metropolis of Delhi, you’ll see futuristic skyscapers contrasted with the marigold sellers and begin to understand the many contrasts of modern India. Moving to Varanasi, the country’s spiritual capital, you’ll witness pilgrims washing away their sins in the sacred Ganges and the confronting yet fascinating ritual of the cremation ghats, where it is said that the deceased are offered freedom from the cycle of re-birth. A dawn boat ride on the Ganges is an enlightening experience offering a sense of stillness following the intense sights, smells and sounds of the many markets, bazaars, narrow food streets and temples.

Moving to Agra you’ll visit the iconic Taj Mahal, witnessing its majestic beauty at sunrise and sunset before continuing to Ranthambore, home of the tiger. Here you will track these magnificent creatures by day, then stay in a beautiful, hand-stitched 1920’s style safari camp harking back to life on safari during the heyday of the Raj with respectful nostalgia.

Rounding off your journey you’ll spend time exploring the pink city of Jaipur and tranquil lakeside town of Udaipur discovering fantastical palaces, temples and havelis, walking, cycling and boating on shimmering Lake Pichola. Jaisalmer sees you riding effortlessly across shifting sands into the timeless Thar Desert aboard a train of camels, visiting the abandoned city of Kuldhara and visiting remote farms and isolated villages. Your final stop will be in Jodphur, the enchanting blue city where the scent of incense hangs on the breeze and you can shop the maze of streets for anything from saris and traditionally tailored 'Jodhpur' breeches to engraved silver, hand-dyed textiles and intricately embroidered leather shoes.

There’s no denying that India is a dazzling, stimulating and fascinating destination but by combining the headiness of cities with the peaceful tranquillity of Lake Pichola, the paused quiet of Ranthambore’s jungles and the stillness of the desert, balance is achieved and the diversity of India can truly be appreciated.

The itinerary is intended and a framework for inspiration only. Contact us for a tailor made itinerary to suit you, suggestions for additional arrangements in India or further afield and access to one off, unique experiences simply not available ‘off the shelf’.
