‘Classic Vietnam’ and ‘Classic Cambodia’ work perfectly alone or in tandem with one another. Both are led by Jemma Wilson of Mai Journeys and the dates of each tie seamlessly together.

CLASSIC VIETNAM

Beginning in Vietnam’s capital, Hanoi, you’ll experience old world charm blended with the dynamic bustle of new Asia exploring streets of colonial architecture, enchanting lakes and the frenetic maze of narrow streets of the Old Quarter. You’ll walk the streets with an expert guide, visit museums and sample the local cuisine. Moving to Halong Bay you’ll board a restored junk boat which will take you to the furthest reaches of this tranquil waterway, visiting floating villages, impressive cave systems and learning how the region’s pearls are harvested and processed. Hue presents flat, green land for cycling, the beautiful Perfume River and the Royal Imperial Court before you move on to historic Hoi An where traditional ochre buildings line the streets, traffic is virtually absent and lanterns float on a languid river. Quality clothing can be tailored in a matter of hours, pagodas, bridges and historic private homes are yours to explore and bustling markets provide all the fresh produce you’ll need for a cooking class. Whilst in Hoi An you will be hosted for dinner at STREETS restaurant - a non-profit organization which provides training and employment for disadvantaged youths. Moving South you’ll end your journey in buzzing Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) where crowded streets pulse with energy and scooters rule the roads! A day spent in the Mekong Delta will offer a contrasting peacefulness with an excursion to the delta town of Ben Tre, known for its picturesque, French era waterfront.

CLASSIC CAMBODIA

The journey begins in Phnom Penh where you will meet you fellow travellers and head out for an evening of gastronimc exploration on foot, visiting local restaurants, tapas bars and beer houses before arriving at the The Foreign Correspondants Club (FCC) – historically a popular meeting place for foreign journalists and aid workers and the cornerstone of the city’s riverfront district. You’ll ride cyclos to discover the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, shop your way through colourful streets and visit the moving Killing Fields + S21 Prison before heading to Battambang. Here you’ll pass through rural villages and countryside, stop at the ceramic village of Kampong Chhnang to learn more about traditional Angkorian pottery and take a cycling tour of local artisan industries. Your final stop will be Siem Reap, known for its beautiful temples but fast becoming the epicentre of chic Cambodia with hip hotels, world-class dining, sumptuous spas, great shopping and a thriving cultural scene. During your time here you will visit the jungle-clad Ta Prohm, enjoy a night food tour by Vespa, shop for unique homewares and textiles in hidden pockets of the city, be awed by the famous Cambodian Circus, take a cooking class, learn about silk production wandering the mulberry trees of the Golden Silk Pheach Farm NGO and escape to the surrounding countryside to wander idyllic rice paddies. Of course no trip to Cambodia would be complete without a visit to the mesmerising Angkor Wat temple - the largest religious complex in the world. You will experience it at sunrise when it is quiet and peaceful, the light is soft and photogenic and the ambience is one of deep spirituality.

Both journeys take in the very best of Vietnamese and Cambodian culture with authentic experiences, exquisite local cuisine and the best specialist guides. Throughout you will stay in a handpicked selection of boutique hotels showcasing the warmth of local hospitality coupled with the exacting standards of international luxury travel. Of course you will also enjoy the companionship of a small group of likeminded female travellers.

These journeys allow you to immerse yourself in the traditional lifestyle of Vietnam and Cambodia in comfort and style!
