Bush & Bay South Africa
Escorted safari to South Africa with Margaret Jones
19 April to 01 May, 2016
This 12 night safari to South Africa has been specifically designed for those who perhaps have not travelled to Africa before and who prefer to take this first step with a small, like-minded group, accompanied by a professional Tour Host and Naturalist, Margaret Jones. The itinerary itself offers you the very best wildlife experience in two very different safari camps in different regions of the famous Kruger National Park. Both the Kapama and Sabi Sands are Private Game Reserves where you will encounter few vehicles, but enjoy experienced, professional Rangers and some of the best game viewing in the world. You can expect to see elephants, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, warthogs, baboon, a wide range of antelopes and colourful birds, and of course the predators lion, leopard, hyaena, and jackal. If you are lucky, and you are in the right place, you may see both white and black rhinos.
The safari starts in Johannesburg with 2 nights at the Peermont Mondior Hotel, a great chance to get over any jet-lag and to meet the rest of your small group. You then head off the following morning to fly to Hoedspruit, Kruger National Park, where you are met in safari vehicles and drive into the Kapama Private Game Reserve and your accommodation at Kapama Buffalo Tented Camp. Head out on twice-daily game drives to look for elephants, buffalo, giraffe, lions and many more species of wildlife and birds. There is time in the middle of each day to relax and sit on your verandah to bird watch or read, surrounded by the African bush.
After 3 very exciting nights at Buffalo, you drive, via the scenic Panorama Route, to the southern end of Kruger National Park and into the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve, and to Nottens Bush Camp.
There are plenty of morning and afternoon game drives to look for rhino, leopard and a variety of antelopes and added to this, there is the opportunity to go for a great nature walk into the bush with an armed Ranger. This is a wonderful way to see some of the smaller animals and birds and to learn about the eco-systems.
From Kruger you fly down to the vibrant and beautiful city of Cape Town and will stay 4 nights at The Victoria & Alfred Hotel, right down at the Waterfront. There is time for shopping and exploring on your own should you wish to do so, but we have included private sightseeing to Table Mountain, Cape Town City and by ferry across to historic Robben Island where Mandela was jailed for so long. A further day of touring will take you into the scenic winelands of The Cape where you will see some of the Cape Dutch architecture, stunning scenery and of course get to taste these world-class wines.
